Bishop to address ‘urgent issue of our time’ in open Bracknell lecture
Mary Gregory, Bishop of Reading, to speak on ‘Being human in the age of AI’
Mary Gregory will give the annual Winder lecture on Sunday, 8th November 2026 at 6.30pm at St Michael’s Church, Warfield.
She will use it to reflect on the urgent questions we are currently facing around the use of AI, as well as the deeper philosophical issues it raises about what makes human beings different from artificial life.
“This is the urgent issue of our day,’” says Revd Guy Donegan-Cross, vicar of Warfield Church. “It is vital that we take breathing space to ask ourselves where we are going with AI, and what it says about who we are.”
“This is particularly relevant in an area where so many people are on the frontline of developing and responding to the digital world.”
“Whether people are of faith, some faith or no faith, we hope this lecture might give some room to reflect.”
Bishop Mary will speak and take questions, and refreshments will be served.
The event is free to all.
The Winder lecture, first started in 1647, is an annual event on a topic of contemporary concern.
