First Steps

First steps is a drop-in play and stay group where mothers can find friendship and support over a cup of tea and where children can play in a relaxed and safe environment.

The group, which meets at Whitegrove Youth and Community Centre on County Lane, Warfield, on Fridays between 1 and 3 p.m. in term time, is run on a volunteer basis for local mums and their youngsters.

Each session ends with action singing for the little ones and there is a craft table so pre-schoolers can make something to take away with them.

Warfield parish councillor Sandra Ingham, said: "Children who are now at our local secondary school have passed through the group, so it is very much part of the fabric of our local community."

First Steps is run by All Saints and St Peter's Churches, Warfield. In 2009 First Steps won Warfield Parish Council's Chairman's Award.
