Buckler News - Andy's Blog

All Saints, Warfield supports Andrew and Uta Buckler who work with the French Reformed Church (the main Protestant church in France). They are our Crosslinks mission partners called to work in evangelism and church leadership.

Andy and Uta were married in 1994 and have three young children, Thomas, Samuel and Daniel who was born in December 2001. Andy was a curate of St Aldate's church in Oxford from 1996 to 2000.

Following a degree at Oxford in Modern Languages, Andy lived in France and Russia for 4 years before returning to Oxford in 1993 to train at Wycliffe Hall for ordination. Uta moved to England in 1991 from Germany where she grew up, to take up studies in Russian and Economics at Keele University. In 1993 Uta spent a year in Moscow where she and Andy met. She worked for 4 years as an accountant before refocusing her skills on the challenges of parenthood.

Since September 2000, they have been working within the French Reformed Church (the main Protestant church in France). Andy trained at the Faculty of Protestant Theology in Paris. Initially they are based in Belleville Reformed church, a dynamic and growing church in a multicultural inner-city area of Paris.

Now they have taken on local church leadership at Mantes-la-Jolie 40 km. west of Paris. Mantes-la-Jolie is a small town, but the parish is 50 km in diameter and includes the surrounding villages. It's quite rural, but also includes a large immigrant housing estate. The church is small - there were about 20 - 25 people on a Sunday when they moved there. The current building is small seating about 100.

Andy and Uta are convinced that one of the major challenges of the twenty-first century is a secularised Europe, with France as a key starting point - right on the UK's doorstep! Within this context, they believe that God has called them to work in France enabling and encouraging national Christians to live and witness for Christ through church-based evangelism and discipleship. It is their longing to see French people equipped and trained as godly leaders and mature believers.
